Wyoma & Sluice

Wyoma Sq

Wyoma Square: Long ago Wyoma was known as Dye House Village because three dye houses were located there. Later it was called Bacheller’s Plains, named after Mr. Bacheller; the man that owned most of the land.

Wyoma Square and Sluice Pond

One of two beautiful ponds in Bacheller’s Plains was called Tomlin’s Pond. It later became Wyoma Lake, now it’s called Sluice Pond. The other pond close to Wyoma is Flax Pond which was once called Lake Wenuchus.
Wyoma Square "labeled" post card.
In 1901 this post card sender wrote on the front of the card to designate a grocery store, barber shop and bakery which have become a television shop, a liquor store and a sports pub.

Sluice Pond Camps

At the turn of the century most of the pond was surrounded by summer camps.
Most of the children of Wyoma went to school in Gravesend (Glenmere) at the brick schoolhouse known as the Lewis School.
