Women of Lynn

Moll Pitcher was Lynn's clairvoyant in the late 1700's, a decendant of many wizards and fortune tellers.

Moll's home was at the base of High Rock. Her husband Robert was unable to find employment as a shoe worker (couldn't find work as a shoemaker in Lynn?) so Moll read tea leaves and predicted the fortunes of many Lynners. She became so popular that many people traveled from Europe to learn their futures. Sailors wouldn't head out to sea unless they received reassurances from Moll.

Lydia Pinkham made home remedy tonics from her home at 285 Western Avenue selling them door to door. Her alcohol laced tonics helped women and were so popular that she built a factory a couple doors from her home. The first woman in America to use her likeness in the marketing of her products, which are still sold today.
