Broad Street (Route 1A) from the Lynnway leads us to Washington Square. On the right is the Oxford Club. The church in the background is the Unitarian Universalist Church that burned. The congregation built a contemporary church in Swampscott.

Washington Sq. 2

Bear right at Washington Square to Nahant Street which leads us to Lynn Shore Drive. The Oxford Club building has been "modernized" with aluminum siding, removing all architectural features.

Washington Sq 3

This post card shows the square with modern road markings,  based on the style of the cars, its the late 1940's.  On the left behind the trees was the Women's Club which later became Girl's Inc. which has since moved to Highland Square.

electric fountain

The Angell fountain was the first electric fountain in America. General Electric was promoting their new incadescent lights and placed them throughout Lynn, promoting their new product. Perhaps you can locate the fountain in the 40's post card!
