Storms

There were daredevils in 1915 that challenged the waves despite there being no iron fence.

The most devastation of all storms was the Great New England Hurricane of 1938. It was the first major hurricane to strike New England since 1869. It formed as a Category 5 and hit landfall as a Category 3 storm. 

The hurricane was estimated to have killed between 682 and 800 people, damaged or destroyed over 57,000 homes, and caused property losses estimated at 306 million ($4.7 billion in 2010 dollars).   To date it remains the most powerful, costliest and deadliest hurricane in New England history.
