Mary Baker Eddy slipped and fell on Market St. in 1866 which caused a severe spinal injury. She turned to the bible which she claimed helped heal her injury. This led to a self published textbook of the Christian Science religion which she wrote in her 12 Broad Street home.

Eddy lived at 12 Broad Street from 1875 to 1882.

Much of her time spent in prayer was at Red Rock. Today Lynn's Christian Science Church is located across the street on Lynn Shore Drive.
