The Lynn Historical Society moved into its Green Street home in 1913. On June 30, 1929, a museum wing, the gift of the President, Benjamin N. Johnson, was opened. An eagle over the porch for many years was carved for the Lynn Academy by Samuel McIntyre of Salem.

Lynn Museum and Historical Society

The Lynn Historical Society did not have a headquarters for its first 16 years and  rented rooms at the Oxford Club on Broad St.
Seen below, the Oxford Club was home to several small organizations including the Atalanta Club of which Helen Keller was a member. The building would serve several purposes over the years including a failed Charter School.

The Historical Society also rented rooms at the Lynn Gas and Electric Building before moving to Green St.
The Lynn Historical Society added the word "Museum" to its name in the late 1900's.
