Lynn's High Schools

Lynn High

The Lynn Industrial Shoe School (now Girls' Inc.) would close when Lynn's new High School was ready for occupancy in 1892. Located in Highland Square the new high school would boast 33 classrooms on three floors featuring a "gothic revival" style. Classical High shared this building with English High. Classical moved out to their new building in 1911 and English High to its new building in 1931. For fifteen years, Classical and English High shared the same building, Classical was on the first floor while English High was on the second floor (whose on top of the world in that setup?).
Today the building is Cobbet Hill Apartments.

In 1905 a manual trainning annex was built along with the James Street Annex. This section of the school would become the Pre-Vocational School until 1982. On March 29, 1924 the main building burned causing a fatality. English High had to move back to the Old Shoe School building across the street until their new school was ready on Goodridge St. in 1931. The above building would become Cobbet Jr. High until 1982.
